The IMF Fund Internship Program 2026 is a fully funded summer program in the United States and is now open. This is an international internship that enables students of all nationalities to have practical experience at the international monetary fund (IMF) headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Approximately 50 bright students are chosen every year to take part in this prestigious program all over the world. The internship lasts 10-12 weeks between June and September 2026 and offers a great exposure to the real-world financial and legal research projects. 

The IMF Fund Internship Program is a paid internship and is accessible to students who are already in universities all over the globe. It does not have an application fee and is therefore affordable to all students.

The IMF FIP’s duration

A paid internship lasting 10–12 weeks will be offered to selected candidates between June and September of 2026. The interns will determine the precise dates later.

Internship Areas

The IMF Fund Internship Program will place the participants in either one of the two important departments based on their academic background:

  • Economist Track: Students majoring in macroeconomics, finance or related disciplines.
  • Legal Department: To law students who specialize in international law, financial regulation, or other related areas.

The interns will each be assigned a clear research topic that is pertinent to the current activity of the IMF and will be able to make a valuable contribution to the policy debate and publications.

  • Perform analysis and research under an IMF knowledgeable coworker.
  • Investigate and evaluate the topic chosen by the IMF.

Qualifications for Eligibility

You must fulfill the following requirements in order to be eligible for the IMF Fund Internship Program:

  • For Economists: Have a PhD in macroeconomics or a similar discipline within the last year or two.
  • For the Legal Department: You must be within a year or two of earning your J.D., LL.M., or comparable legal degree.
  • Continue to be enrolled as a student during the internship.
  • younger than 32.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
  • Strong computing, quantitative, and analytical abilities.

Requirements for IMF Internship Visas

You will require a G4 visa if you are not a U.S. citizen or if you do not possess any other work permission in the United States. The documentation required to support your G4 visa application with U.S. authorities will be supplied by the IMF.
