What is CaCTuS Summer Internship?
CaCTuS is the Tübingen Summer Internship in Computation and Cognition. It is a joint initiative of the Max Planck Campus Tübingen, started in 2022 at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics.
The program aims to make the scientific community more diverse. It offers real life opportunities for motivated students who may have barriers due to financial, personal or regional circumstances to enjoy a world-class research setting.
The interns are assigned to their own research project which is to be supervised by an experienced scientist. The work can consist of:
- machine learning models
- Studies of brain and behaviour.
- computer simulations
- scientific software
- real research data
Interns deliver their findings at the yearly CaCTuS Symposium at the end of the summer.
Why the CaCTuS Summer Internship?
Most international research internships require students to cover their own airfare, accommodation and subsistence. CaCTuS cuts this hurdle by paying most of the costs and selection is based on potential, not pocket change.
It’s also a small program so that each intern receives attention from a real supervisor. Knowing how to work at a Max Planck Institute is beneficial to universities all over the world and can prove to be an advantage for future applications for masters, PhD and research positions.
