Eligibility

To be eligible for the Opportunity Card, you must achieve a minimum score of six points based on the following criteria:

1. Vocational Training or University Degree:

2. Language Proficiency:

• You must exhibit at least basic proficiency in either German (A1 level) or English (B2 level). You can improve your language skills through online resources such as Babbel, Goethe Institute, IELTS, or Preply.

3. Financial Support for Living Expenses:

• You are required to demonstrate your ability to sustain yourself while residing in Germany. There are two options available:
  • Savings: At least 1,027 euros per month (as of 2024).
  • Employment offer: Secure part-time employment (up to 20 hours per week) with a German company to fulfill the financial criteria.

4. Professional Experience:

• A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in your field is necessary. This can be substantiated with a letter from your current or previous employer.

5. Prior Residency in Germany:

• Living in Germany for more than six months (excluding tourism) can improve your prospects. Documentation such as employment contracts or rental agreements will be advantageous.

6. Spousal Qualification:

• You can earn additional points if your spouse also seeks the Opportunity Card. To do so, you must provide a marriage certificate and information regarding your spouse’s qualifications.
