Categories of Awards

There are two primary categories for the 2025 Nature Awards for Inspiring Women:

Science Outreach Category: This category recognizes programs encouraging young women or girls to pursue STEM fields or help keep women in STEM occupations.

Scientific Achievement Category: Honors exceptional publications, scientific breakthroughs, and extracurricular activities significantly influencing the STEM community.

Rewards and Advantages

The  Nature Awards for Inspiring Women winners and runners-up will take home coveted awards and international recognition:

• The winners will receive USD 50,000 in cash.
• Travel and lodging costs will be provided for the winners, who will be invited to the award ceremony in either London or New York.
• The Estée Lauder Companies’ scientists will have the chance to hear the winners’ presentations.
• Nature.com will feature the winning projects.
• In addition to an invitation to the award ceremony and a US$5,000 cash prize, runners-up will also get reimbursement for their travel and lodging costs.
• Short-listed candidates will have access to an exclusive coaching and networking community.

Qualifications

One of the two award categories is open to applicants:

Category of Science Outreach:

• Any gender is eligible, as are individuals, departments, teams working on projects, and organizations.
• Girls and young women in STEM professions must be encouraged and supported by the project.
• To support women in STEM professions, applications must show vision, impact, and sustainability.
• Applications from interdisciplinary efforts are invited.

Category of Scientific Achievement:

• Women researchers are eligible, including transgender, genderqueer, and non-binary people.
• The candidate must have shown leadership potential and substantially contributed to scientific discovery.
• The applicant requires a PhD, medical degree, or comparable doctorate obtained within the previous ten years.
• Eligible candidates must be employed in non-tenured employment at the time of application.
• The candidate ought to have made an effort to encourage and keep women in STEM.
